Brain of Benny Blot
The Hub of Ben Blotner's Writing Career

Featured Work
Between bombing his basketball tryout, being unable to speak to girls, and getting caught doing the unthinkable by his parents, eighth-grader Dexter Byrd can't catch a break. The halls of Burton Middle School are roamed by a cast of cruel, crude, and immature adolescent boys who make Dexter's life a living hell at every turn. When it all comes to a head, will Dexter have what it takes to fight back, put the bullies in their place, and most importantly, earn respect?

Like a more rough-around-the-edges Diary of a Wimpy Kid, The Middle paints a raw and realistic portrait of the middle-school world. It follows the protagonist of my upcoming debut novel, Out of the Bassline, during an earlier and even more trying time in his life. The start of Dexter's journey is split into Parts 1 and 2.

White Sox Book
I've officially been published in a book for the first time! Check out the Society for American Baseball Research's The 2005 World Champion Chicago White Sox: Grinders and Gamers, which features my biography of former White Sox closer Bobby Jenks. Sadly, Bobby recently passed away from stomach cancer. R.I.P. to a World Series champion and a fighter. It was an honor to cover the wild ups and downs of his career and life.

Critical Acclaim
I rather enjoyed this book! ... anyone who enjoys engaging, coming-of-age novels combining music and baseball would love Blotner’s story."

About Benny Blot
Hey there! I'm Ben Blotner, a 20-something freelance writer and up-and-coming novelist from Columbus, Ohio. My work has been published by the Wooster Voice, the Columbus Jewish News, and the Society for American Baseball Research. I've written one and a half novels, and I am planning to publish the first one in 2025. My passions include baseball, music (especially pop punk), travel, adventure, and cinema. I love the Boston Red Sox, Fall Out Boy, and the films of Quentin Tarantino, Paul Thomas Anderson, and Yorgos Lanthimos. I'll be posting short stories, takes on various topics, and novel updates. Expect a blend of quirky hangout stories, dark comedy, pulpy crime, and scathing satire, with an infusion of pop culture- and Internet-related humor.
